At AFA, we help you develop better moving bodies through resistance training and keep you in the best condition to thrive. Our approach is adapted from best practices of functional movement training systems that you find in competitive athletic training.
There’s no exercise experience or fitness level required to get started. We get you from where you are now to where you want to be.
Mobility is an integrated component to developing performance. We develop mobility using a combination of self soft tissue work in order to improve physical performance, decrease risk of injury, and optimize muscular development. In addition, we believe flexibility plays an essential role in developing healthy range of motion for proper joint mechanics. In addition, we incorporate flexibility work into each workout as a way to increase blood flow to our muscles which prepares us for great training.
Stability is paramount for efficiently moving in the 3D space we live in. As we generate directional forces we must be translate that energy efficiently or else we leak energy through our joints. That leaking can result in dysfunctional movement and possibly injury. So when we gain stability, we really gain control over where our body is going. That is a valuable capability that benefits us in everyday life and in sport.
If stability and mobility help us move well without injury, then strength training is how we improve our movements and prepare ourselves for greater levels of performance. Developing strength leads to more power, explosiveness, muscle mass, energy distribution, stronger bones, and increased metabolic rate. It fortifies everything we do. The intangible aspects of strength training also make a huge impact on our minds. The process of focusing on proper lifting and increasing the weights you lift are growth habits that translate to anything you do in life.
Conditioning is important for maintaining cardiovascular health and improving the way we distribute oxygen and nutrients to our body. We believe the most efficient form of conditioning is through high intensity movements in short bursts of time. Whether it's pushing a sled, doing intervals on a bike, slamming a rope, or moving a weight, we push ourselves to the limit and become more efficient at performing movements.
